Speed Cleaning: 7 Ways to Clean Your Home in Half the Time
If cleaning your house from top to bottom typically takes you a couple of hours or longer, the good news is that it’s possible to cut your cleaning time in half. Here are 7 handy tips and tricks that will minimize the time that you spend cleaning each week!
1. Upgrade your vacuum cleaner
If you own a large home, such as a two storey house, you’ll find that investing in a lightweight portable vacuum cleaner will allow you to vacuum your home in half the time that it would normally take you. You won’t have to worry about unplugging your vacuum cleaner each time you move to a new room. You don’t have to break the bank when purchasing a new vacuum, however; some cheaper vacuums perform just as well as their expensive counterparts.
2. Dust with a microfiber mitt, instead of a cloth
Don’t bother dusting with a traditional feather duster or a cheap cloth as you’ll just move dust to other surfaces, instead of picking it up. By far the quickest way to thoroughly clean your coffee table, side tables, and lighting fixtures is to use a microfiber mitt. This special type of cloth traps particles of dirt and dust in its fibers.
3. Store all of your cleaning products in the same place
Chances are that you waste valuable time, trying to locate various cleaning products such as window spray, microfiber cloths, and surface cleaners. If you make a habit out of keeping all of your cleaning products in a large box, you’ll find that you’ll be able to start cleaning straight away, without wasting time trying to locate different cleaning products. To make it even easier for yourself, you could make your own natural multipurpose cleaners. Having a cleaning solution that does multiple cleaning jobs will save you money and time.
4. Create an upbeat playlist of songs that will motivate you to clean faster
If you find cleaning a bore, why not create a custom list of upbeat tracks that will motivate you to clean faster? Who knows, you may even have a bit of fun whilst cleaning. If there are other people in the house that you don’t want to disturb, such as a sleeping baby, you could use headphones.
5. Use a kitchen sponge and not a cloth, to wipe down your kitchen surfaces
All you need to thoroughly clean your kitchen surfaces, such as your countertops and your kitchen island, is a few squirts of a kitchen spray and a kitchen sponge. Clothes are good for cleaning, but they tend to leave behind strands of material as you clean. Nothing works better than a large, absorbent sponge. An extra tip for keeping your sponge germ-free: put it the microwave for 30 seconds. This will kill 99% of bacteria, just be careful as it will be hot!
6. Start off by cleaning your toilet, shower, and bath
You may want to pour bleach into your toilet bowl and spray your bath and shower with a bathroom specific cleaning spray first. Bleach and bathroom sprays typically need to be left to work on your bathroom for 20 minutes, before they need to be flushed away, or washed off. Once you’ve applied your cleaning products, feel free to tidy another room, whilst you’re waiting.
7. If you have children, drop them off at a friend or family member’s house
If you have children, chances are that they’ll distract you every five minutes. So if you want to get your cleaning done quickly, it’s well worth dropping them off at a play date or getting grandpa and grandma to look after them for two hours. That way you’ll remain focused on the task at hand.
So next time you clean your house, try using a few of the tips listed above and you should realistically have your home cleaned in half the time that it would normally take you!
